Church Life

Sunday Worship

  • When does the service start?

Our Sunday service starts at 10:00 a.m. and usually lasts until 11:30 a.m. You’ll want to arrive a few minutes early to meet a few folks, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in the Lloyd home, and find your way to the sanctuary.

  • Where is parking?

Our parking lot, right off of Maiden Lane, is reserved for visitors, the elderly, and those with small children.

Street parking is available along the streets of Maiden Lane and Wasena Avenue. Please be courteous to our neighbors by not blocking their driveways or the bus stop.

  • What is available for children?

We love children, and there a lot of them in our church family! Children are welcome to stay in the service, but we also offer childcare and children's classes during the service.

    • Sign in the larger lobby upon arrival.
    • Infants and toddlers (0-4 years of age) can be taken to the Nursery on the lower level.
    • Elementary-aged children (K – 5th grades) join us for the first part of the service. They are then dismissed before the sermon.
    • A nursing mother’s room is available up the stairs of the main lobby.
  • What should I expect during a service?

In a typical service, we will:

    • Sing an opening song of praise and then read a Scripture passage in call to worship.
    • Sing two more songs and pray. Elementary-aged children will then be dismissed to their class.
    • Hear God’s Word read and preached by one of our Pastors.
    • Sing a few more songs. We celebrate Communion (Lord’s Supper) on the first Sunday of the month.
    • Hear a closing thought and some announcements. Enjoy some time in conversation with others before leaving.

City Groups

City Groups gather through the week in homes to know and follow Jesus together in smaller groups. Following the example of the early church, City Groups are devoted to life connections, Bible study, prayer and occasional meals together (Acts 2:42). City Groups are where we relationally can be the church to one another and to our city.

  • Why are small groups important?

We cannot be close to everyone in a large group. We need smaller groups to know others and to be be known in closer relationships.

We see this even in the life and ministry of Jesus.

    • the “3” – Jesus had closer discipleship with a few, such as Peter, James and John.
    • the “12” – Jesus called twelve disciples to become apostles. This was his primary group for discipleship.
    • larger groups – Jesus ministered to many others as well, larger groups of disciples (72 in Luke 10 and 120 in Acts 1:15) and larger crowds.

City Groups are where we connect and minister at the small group level (the “12”). Closer relationships (the “3”) may even happen within City Groups.

  • How can I can connect to a City Group?

We have City Groups that meet throughout the week in different areas of the city and valley.

The Grandin Village City Group which meets in Pastor Derek's home is especially good for newcomers to Citylight.

Please MESSAGE us for more information about our present City Groups.

Prayer Meetings

The early church devoted themselves to prayer (Acts 1:14; 2:42). A Prayer Meeting is an opportunity to commune with God together - pouring out our hearts in both praise and petition. Prayer does not just ready us for worship and ministry. Prayer is worship and ministry.

  • Sunday mornings before the service - 9:15-9:45 a.m. in the Nursing Mothers' Room
  • Sunday evenings - 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary
  • Wednesdays - 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the Lloyd Home

Children are gifts from God, and we are called to love, train and provide for them. The Bible charges parents with the primary responsibility of their child’s spiritual formation and care. Citylight wants to support and families in this so that our children and youth may become lifelong followers of Jesus Christ, exceeding us in faith and faithfulness.

Children's Ministry

Sunday Children's Ministry

  • A safe and caring nursery is provided for infants and toddlers (6 weeks to age 3) during our Sunday worship gatherings.
  • Children ages 4 to 6 join the adults in the worship service through the beginning songs, but then are dismissed to an engaging time of worship and learning. Presently we have two classes – one for 4-6 year-olds and another for 7-9 year-olds.

Kid's Quest | Wednesday Children's Outreach

  • Pastor Christian and other leads a Wednesday evening outreach from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, for children grades K-6.

Youth Ministry

Youth City Group (6th – 12th graders)

Every Wednesday evening, 6:30-8:30 p.m., middle and high school youth gather in the gym and youth room. This usually includes a large group time for fellowship and teaching and then smaller break-out groups for discussion and discipleship. Through the school year there will also be other retreats and outings planned.

Our Youth Ministry is led by our Youth Minister, Ben Rodkey, and other loving adults.
